Carolina Hurricanes' forward Bryan Bickell told NHL.com that he will retire from the NHL at the end of the season after being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in November.

Bickell made an emotional return to the Hurricanes on Apr. 3, playing in the team's last two games. It was his first NHL action since his diagnosis and he plans on playing in the Hurricanes' last two games versus the St. Louis Blues and Philadelphia Flyers.

"I've made the decision with my family that I'm going to call it quits, so it's just these last two games," said Bickell.

The 31-year-old was drafted in the second round (41st overall) of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft by the Chicago Blackhawks and won three Stanley Cups with the Blackhawks in 2010, 2013 and 2015.

He will be most remembered for his game-tying goal late in the third period of Game 6 of the 2015 Stanley Cup Final against the Boston Bruins.

The nine-year NHL veteran was traded to the Hurricanes on June 15, 2016.

Bickell has scored 66 goals and 70 assists in 363 career games, as well as 20 goals and 19 assists in 75 postseason contests.
