The Edmonton Oilers filed for club elected salary arbitration with defenceman Justin Schultz on Monday.

According to TSN's Ryan Rishaug, the two sides would like to come to terms on a new deal before the hearing date but the move triggers a second buyout window for the Oilers, who have an abundance of defencemen.

Nikita Nikitin is a possibility to be bought out of the final year of his current contract.

Last season, Schultz scored six goals and added 25 assists for 31 points in 81 games. The Kelowna native joined the Oilers as a free agent in 2012 and has 91 points over three seasons in Edmonton.
