Washington Capitals superstar Alex Ovechkin is the latest professional athlete to guarantee a victory.

Speaking to reporters following a 4-3 loss to the New York Rangers, the Capitals second in a row, the Russian sniper explained his thoughts heading into a decisive Game 7 Wednesday night at Madison Square Garden.

"We're going to come back and win the series," he said. "We're going to play our game, and we're going to come back and we're going to play Montreal or Tampa."

Capitals head coach Barry Trotz has no problem with his captain's words.

"I love it," Trotz told reporters Monday. ""That's what leaders do. I think leaders say: 'This is what we need to do. This is what we're going to do.'"

Washington had a 3-1 series lead over the Rangers, but following an overtime loss in New York Friday night and a failed comeback attempt back home in Washington in Game 6, this second round series is headed to the brink.

The Capitals' opening round series against the New York Islanders also went to seven games.

This will be Ovechkin's ninth career Game 7 and currently has a 3-5 record in those games. It will also be the fourth Game 7 between the two's teams since 2007-08. New York has won two out of three so far.

The 29-year-old has four goals and four assists over 13 games during this year's playoffs.
