With rumours about his playing future swirling, Red Wings forward Daniel Afredsson went for a drive with Ottawa Senators general manager Bryan Murray in Detroit on Monday.

"I ran into him today and he asked me what I was doing and he said, 'Let's go for a drive.' It was nice," Murray told ESPN.com with the two teams set to meet later at Joe Louis Arena.

Last week, TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger reported that Alfredsson's comeback bid is about to end with sources saying the former Senators captain has decided not to play this season.

Alfredsson signed with the Red Wings prior to last season, leaving a bad taste for some in the Senators organization.

"Alfie and I have had a good relationship over the years, in spite of all that was said or written," Murray added. "It was good to see him and talk to him again today."

Murray did not divulge what was discussed during the car ride while Alfredsson wanted to know how Murray was doing in his battle against cancer.
