Spartak Moscow fans have been banned from their team's Russian league game this weekend after supporters racially abused Zenit St. Petersburg's Brazil striker Hulk.

The Russian Football Union acted after Hulk said Spartak fans had directed monkey chants at him during a goalless draw on Saturday.

Hulk told local media that the chanting came from "a large group of people" and he considered it "a personal insult."

Spartak fans are banned from Sunday's game at Ural Yekaterinburg. Few were expected to attend the match, held around 880 miles (1,100 kilometres) from Moscow.

The RFU warned of "stricter sanctions" if Spartak fans repeated the abuse.

On Saturday, the RFU banned Congolese defender Christopher Samba for two games after he showed his middle finger to Torpedo Moscow fans who racially abused him.
