While changes are expected for the Ottawa Senators this offseason, a few key members of the club aren’t going anywhere.

General manager Bryan Murray announced Wednesday he will remain in his position for a ninth season and has offered head coach Dave Cameron a contract extension.

Cameron, who is under contract for next season, led the Senators to an unlikely playoff run after taking over for Paul MacLean on Dec. 8.

“I have an offer right now sitting on my kitchen table. I haven’t opened yet,” Cameron said. “This organization has been very fair to me and I don’t anticipate any concerns.”

The Senators stumbled out to an 11-11-5 record under MacLean before management opted for a different voice. The plan worked as the club went 32-15-8 with Cameron at the helm and earned a spot in the playoffs on the final day of the regular season.

“His ability to communicate with them … turn a season around that could have gone sideways after Christmas. I thought he was very deserving of that,” Murray said. “I certainly didn’t want to wait. I made the presentation the day after we finished.”

Some more potential changes for the Senators come in a crowded crease. The team has Craig Anderson and Robin Lehner on one-way deals, but with Andrew Hammond shocking the league with a 20-1-2 record with a .941 save percentage and 1.79 goals-against average, Murray feels he has earned another kick at the can.

“We have two goaltenders signed. Andrew Hammond is unrestricted,” Murray said. “We will make an offer to him and (see) if he is interested and willing to accept what we have for him. If that happens then obviously (there will) be a change in one of the other two guys.”
