SEATTLE - The Seattle Sounders have added depth to their defence by signing Colombian defender Andres Correa.

Seattle announced the signing Tuesday. Correa, 21, spent the past four seasons playing for Fortaleza and Medellin in the Colombian First Division. Correa also has 10 appearances for the Colombian youth national teams, including the Colombian U-20 team that won the 2013 South American championship.

Seattle coach Sigi Schmid said that although Correa is young, the Sounders see him as a contributor this year. Strengthening the Seattle defence has been a focus this off-season, made more important after DeAndre Yedlin's departure for Tottenham of the English Premier League.
