SWANSEA, Wales - Ki Sung-yueng marked his return from the Asian Cup by salvaging Swansea a point in a 1-1 draw against his old club Sunderland on Saturday in the Premier League.

The South Korean struck with a diving header in the 66th minute at the Liberty Stadium after having an earlier effort disallowed.

Jermain Defoe's impressive finish in the 42nd had threatened to give Sunderland all three points against mid-table Swansea.

Defoe slipped outside Federico Fernandez and unleashed a 20-meter shot past the helpless Lukasz Fabianski for his second goal in as many league games.

Sunderland has 24 points from 24 games.
