The transactions continue for Toronto FC this offseason.

The team announced on Monday that the club had signed Polish international defender Damien Perquis from Real Betis of the Spanish Segunda.

Perquis, 30, is French born, but plays internationally for the Biale Orly, first capped in 2011.

“Damien’s signing addresses an area we wanted to improve upon this offseason," said TFC general manager Tim Bezbatchenko in a release. "His experience and leadership both at club and international level will be a welcomed addition to our team. Damien has a great defensive sense and will provide an upside on the ball with his strong distribution from the back. We are very excited to bring him to Toronto FC.”

A product of the youth system at Ligue 2 side Troyes, centre-back Perquis spent time at both Saint-Etienne and Sochaux before moving to Spain in 2012.

Perquis joins high-profile additions American international Jozy Altidore and Italy midfielder Sebastian Giovinco in the new-look TFC line-up, following the departure of Jermain Defoe to Sunderland.

Toronto FC kicks off its preseason on February 18 when it takes on USL PRO side Oklahoma City Energy FC in Orlando.
