PHILADELPHIA — Andrew Jacobson, Kekuta Manneh and Christian Bolanos scored and the Vancouver Whitecaps handed the Philadelphia Union their first home loss of the season, 3-2 on Saturday night.

Bolanos had the key goal in the 84th minute, with Chris Pontius scoring the final goal for Philadelphia late in stoppage time.

"It was a big win, a very important win because we didn't take care of business at home last week against New England," said Whitecaps coach Carl Robinson. "We played very well. We made one or two individual mistakes and in this level it catches up on you. So today we wanted to show a little bit of character, and I think we showed a lot of character. So, all credit to the guys in there."

Bolanos took a pass from Erik Hurtado near the top left corner of the 18 box, made a move and right-footed a shot through the legs of defender Keegan Rosenberry for his fifth goal. The ball, which may have deflected off Rosenberry, slipped just inside the left post.

"The guys are really disappointed, upset, frustrated because on the night I thought we played really good soccer," said Union coach Jim Curtin. "We had some of our best actions in terms of possessions, movements, the goal.

"Credit to Vancouver, they made some big blocks, the goalkeeper made a few saves, especially early. When we were buzzing a little bit in the first half."

The Union (7-5-5), who were 6-0-2 at home and lead the Eastern Conference, opened the scoring in the 14th minute when he cleaned up a loose ball out front. Fabian Herbers' shot from 15 yards hit the crossbar and Sebastien Le Toux chested the rebound to Roland Alberg for his fifth goal.

"I think we deserved more today. We played a great game, but at the end, no points and that's disappointing," said Alberg.

Andrew Jacobson tied it five minutes later, heading in a Bolanos corner kick that went through the hands of Union keeper Andre Blake.

Vancouver (7-7-3) made it 2-1 on a long counter by Kekuta Manneh, who long ran, deked two defenders and sent a right-footed shot from just outside the 18 that deflected in off the right cross bar.
