Toronto Maple Leafs

Captain John Tavares and winger Mitch Marner did not practice with the team on Wednesday, according to TSN's Mark Masters.

Both Tavares and Marner missed Tuesday 4-1 victory over the St. Louis Blues due to an illness.

Tavares has 15 goals and 40 points in 50 games this season while Marner has 22 goals and 57 points in 50 games.

Also missing from Leafs' practice on Wednesday was star winger William Nylander who was also out with an illness.

Nylander skated 19:38 on Tuesday against the Blues and recorded a goal.

The 27-year-old has 26 goals and 66 points in 51 games this season.

Taking Nylander's place beside Auston Matthews and Matthew Knies on the top line is the suspended Morgan Rielly.

Rielly will be out until Feb.22 as he serves his five-game suspension for his cross-check to Ottawa Senators forward Ridly Greig.

Head coach Sheldon Keefe told reporters that Tavares, Marner, and Nylander were not feeling well enough to practice and they will see what their status is on Thursday for their game against the Philadelphia Flyers.

The Maple Leafs used these lines during Wednesday's practice, according to Masters:

Knies - Matthews - Rielly
Bertuzzi - Domi - Robertson
McMann - Kampf - Gregor
Steeves - Holmberg - Reaves

Brodie - Liljegren
Benoit - McCabe

Goaltender Ilya Samsonov did not participate in practice but worked individually with goalie coach Curtis Sanford.

Ottawa Senators

Defenceman Jake Sanderson is on the ice doing pre-practice drills as he continues to work his way back from a lower-body injury.

Head coach Jacques Martin said on Tuesday that the team is targeting for Sanderson to return some time this weekend or next week. He skated on his own yesterday prior to main practice.

Sanderson was injured on Jan. 31 in Ottawa's 3-2 overtime win over Detroit and did not play in Saturday's 5-3 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The 21-year-old told reporters after practice that he will not be available on Thursday against the Anaheim Ducks but could return as early as Saturday against the Chicago Blackhawks.

Sanderson has seven goals and 24 points in 47 games this season.

Also in attendance at Sens optional practice on Wednesday along with Sanderson are goaltenders Anton Forsberg and Joonas Korpisalo, defencemen Erik Brannstrom, Jacob Bernard-Docker and Travis Hamonic as well as forwards Shane Pinto, Dominik Kubalik, Mark Kastelic and Parker Kelly.

Montreal Canadiens

Forwards Nick Suzuki and Josh Anderson are absent from practice today for therapy days.

Suzuki had two goals and an assist in Montreal's 5-0 win over the Anaheim Ducks on Tuesday night.

The Habs are back in action Thursday night against the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden. Forward Brendan Gallagher is eligible to return to the lineup after serving a five-game suspension.

Calgary Flames

The Flames recalled forward Cole Schwindt from the AHL's Calgary Wranglers on Wednesday.

Schwindt, 22, was acquired along with forward Jonathan Huberdeau and defenceman MacKenzie Weegar from the Florida Panthers in exchange for winger Matthew Tkachuk in June of 2022.

The 6-foot-2 forward has three previous appearances with the Flames but did not record a point and has a minus-1 rating.

Schwindt has nine goals and 21 points in 41 games in the AHL this season.

Forward Jakob Pelletier did not practice on Wednesday and is day-to-day with an upper-body injury.

Pelletier, 22, has only appeared in four games with the Flames this season after undergoing shoulder surgery in September.

The 26th overall selection in the 2019 draft has an assist in his four appearances this season.

Pelletier also has two goals and three points in four games with the Wranglers this season.

Foerster, 22, missed Monday's 5-3 win over the Arizona Coyotes with a lower-body injury and needs a few extra days to recover.

The 6-foot-2 winger has 10 goals and 21 points in 52 games this season.

Ristolainen, 29, also missed Monday's victory with an upper-body injury and the team has no timetable for his return.

The 6-foot-4 right-shot defenceman has a goal and four points in 31 games this season.

Arizona Coyotes

Forward Liam O'Brien is listed as day-to-day with an upper-body injury, the team announced on Wednesday.

The 6-foot-1 forward has three goals and eight points in 49 games this season.

San Jose Sharks

The Sharks activated forward Mikael Granlund and defenceman Mario Ferraro off injured reserve on Wednesday.

Granlund, 31, missed the team's last six games prior to the All-Star break with a shoulder injury.

The 5-foot-10 forward has five goals and 29 points in 38 games this season.

Ferraro, 25, missed the team's last four games prior to the All-Star break with a lower-body injury.

The 6-foot defenceman has a goal and 14 points in 47 games this season.

Vegas Golden Knights

Defenceman Shea Theodore was a full contact participant during Wednesday's practice, according to Danny Webster of the Las Vegas Sun.

Theodore, 28, hasn't played since Nov. 22 due to a upper-body injury.

The 6-foot-2 left-shot defenceman has four goals and 18 points in 20 games this season.
