New York Islanders

Veteran goalie Jaroslav Halak has been in the minors since late December, but has posted an impressive 16-7 record with a 2.19 goals-against average and a .923 save percentage during his time there. With the Isles three points behind the Toronto Maple Leafs for the second Wild Card spot in the East and regular starting Thomas Greiss losing four of his last five games, New York may consider calling up the 31-year-old Halak. “There’s a lot of talk about it,’’ head coach Doug Weight told New York Newsday on Monday. “He’s played really well, he’s had a great attitude. We’ll see what transpires here in the next couple of days.’’ Halak is 6-8-5 with a 3.23 GAA in 21 games with the Islanders this season. Jean-Francois Berube is the current backup. - New York Newsday
