Nationals finalize deals with Floro, Senzel

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Washington Nationals finalized a $2.25 million, one-year contract with reliever Dylan Floro on Tuesday and a $2 million, one-year deal with infielder/outfielder Nick Senzel.
Floro can earn $1.65 million in performance bonuses and could match his 2023 pay of $3.9 million. He could get $1.25 million based on games: $200,000 each for 20, 30, 40 and 45 games and $150,000 apiece for 50, 55 and 60. He also could earn $400,000 for games finished: $100,000 for 20 and $150,000 each for 30 and 40.
A 32-year-old right-hander, Floro was 5-6 with a 4.76 ERA and seven saves in 10 chances for Miami and Minnesota, which acquired him on July 26 for right-hander Jorge López.
A regular out of the bullpen for the 2020 World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers, Floro is 26-22 with a 3.42 ERA and 32 saves in eight seasons with Tampa Bay (2016), the Chicago Cubs (2017), Cincinnati (2018), the Dodgers (2018-20), the Marlins (2021-23) and Twins (2023).
Senzel can earn an additional $1 million in performance bonuses for plate appearances: $200,000 each for 100, 200, 300, 400 and 500.
Senzel, 28, was the No. 2 pick in the 2016 amateur draft and spent his first five major league seasons with the Cincinnati Reds. His big league career was slowed by trips to the injured list for left knee inflammation (2021), a broken left foot (2022), and left toe surgery and right knee soreness (2023).
He became a free agent on Nov. 17 when the Reds failed to offer a 2024 contract. Senzel earned $1.95 million last season, when he hit .236 with 13 homers and 42 RBIs. Senzel started 40 games at third base, 15 in left, 12 in center, eight in right and one at second.
He has a .239 career average with 33 homers and 125 RBIs.
To clear a roster spot, Washington designated infielder Jeter Downs for assignment. The 25-year-old was 2 for 5 with two steals, four walks and one RBI in six games with the Nationals this year. He hit .236 with three homers, 18 RBIs and 11 steals in 51 games for Triple-A Rochester.
