Germany claims fourth World Cup in extra-time win over Argentina

Mario Goetze volleyed in the winning goal in extra time to give Germany its fourth World Cup title with a 1-0 victory over Argentina on Sunday. Goetze controlled the ball with his chest and then shot past Argentina goalkeeper Sergio Romero in the 113th minute. The win is Germany's first as a united country. Paying The Price

The Brazilian football confederation says it won't keep Luiz Felipe Scolari as Brazil's head coach. The confederation said in a statement Monday that Scolari will not be coming back after the national team's embarrassing finish at the World Cup. Scolari had promised to win the tournament at home, but Brazil was eliminated in the semifinals. Full Story.

Consolation Prize

Argentina's national team was welcomed home on Monday by thousands of fans celebrating its gutsy performance in the World Cup final. The team arrived to Buenos Aires in the morning in a plane painted with images of the players and a large sign that read: "Thank you Argentina." Full Story.
