Alibaba has made another huge statement in their foray into esports.

The e-commerce giant has committed a $150 million investment in a partnership with the International e-Sports Federation (IeSF) to boost the competitive-gaming landscape in China.

The Alibaba Sports Group, a subsidiary of Alibaba, is the main player in the partnership with IeSF.

The pairing aims to host esports events for amateurs and professionals, continue to push for mainstream recognition of competitive gaming, and build a “unique IP.”

“As the most authoritative international organization in e-sports industry, IeSF has been committed to promoting esports movement into the mainstream, including pushing it into the Olympic Games, which is consistent with our ideal,” Alisports CEO Zhang Dazhong said.

The investment from Alisports is based around the creation of the World Electronic Sports Games (WESG), an esports event that is expected to boast more than $5.5 million in prizes.
