BUFFALO, N.Y. — Four different players scored hat tricks as the Buffalo Bandits overpowered the Calgary Roughnecks 16-9 in the season opener for both teams Saturday in the National Lacrosse League.

Josh Byrne had four goals and three assists and Connor Fields had four goals and one assist to lead the offence for Buffalo (1-0), which scored seven unanswered goals in the third quarter to break the game wide open.

Dhane Smith added three goals and six assists while Tehoka Nanticoke contributed three goals. Chris Cloutier and Chase Fraser also found the back of the net for the Bandits. Kyle Buchanan chipped in with four assists.

Goalie Matt Vinc stopped 49 shots for the win.

Curtis Dickson scored four times for the Roughnecks (0-1). Jesse King had two goals and four assists. Tanner Cook, Zach Currier and Haiden Dickson also scored.

Christian Del Bianco made 33 stops in defeat.

Calgary outshot Buffalo 58-49.
