TORONTO - Former England captain Steven Gerrard tops the MLS player ratings in the new "FIFA 16" video game.

The Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder gets an overall rating of 84 from EA Sports, which develops the hit franchise in suburban Vancouver. No 2 among MLS players is New York City FC midfielder Andrea Pirlo, who also gets an 84.

Toronto FC's Sebastian Giovinco is third at 81, followed by Orlando's Kaka (81), Seattle's Clint Dempsey (81), Montreal's Didier Drogba (81), Los Angeles' Robbie Keane (80), New York City FC's David Villa (80), NYCFC's Andoni Iraola (80) and Toronto's Michael Bradley (80).

Montreal's Ignacio Piatti ranks 17th (77) while Vancouver's Pedro Morales is 19th (77).

The top-rated player in the new game is Barcelona's Lionel Messi at 94, followed by Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo (93) and Barcelona's Luis Suarez (90).

Dempsey was the top MLS player last year in "FIFA 15" with a rating of 81. Toronto's Jermain Defoe (80) was second and Bradley (80) third.

The top five Whitecaps in the new game are Morales (77), Kendall Waston (74), Matias Laba (73), David Ousted (73) and Octavio Rivera (71).

Giovinco (81) and Bradley (80) lead the TFC ratings, followed by Jozy Altidore (74), Benoit Cheyrou (74) and Damien Perquis (73).

The top Montreal Impact players are Drogba (81), Piatti (77), Laurent Ciman (76), Marco Donadel (70) and Andres Romero (69).

EA says the player ratings are compiled using input from more than 8,000 fans along with contributions from hundreds of data editors. The numbers are revised during the season to reflect real life.

Tottenham's Harry Kane, for example, went from a 68 to a 78 during a breakout performance last season.

"FIFA 16" is released Sept. 22 for PC, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3.
