Juventus and Germany international Sami Khedira will be out of action for the next month for an irregular heartbeat.

The Scudetto holders announced on Wednesday that the 31-year-old midfielder had successfully undergone an ablation of an arrhythmogenic atrial focus.

The procedure is a relatively common one. Boston Bruins defenceman Charlie McAvoy underwent the same procedure last winter and was able to return to action just over two weeks afterwards.

A native of Stuttgart, Khedira is in his fourth season with the Bianconeri. He has two goals in 15 matches across all competitions this season. Khedira has also played for Stuttgart and Real Madrid.

Internationally, Khedira has been capped 77 times by Die Mannschaft and was a member of their 2014 World Cup-winning squad.

Juventus visits Atletico Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League Round of 16 tie later on Wednesday.
