Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler is dealing with a sprained right thumb, but he won't require surgery according to head coach John Fox.

According to the Chicago Sun Times, Cutler suffered the injury in the team’s Week 1 loss to the Houston Texans and re-aggravated it Monday night against the Philadelphia Eagles. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Cutler will miss two-to-three weeks.

Cutler pulled himself in the third quarter Monday’s 29-14 loss because he said he was no longer effective.

Cutler completed 12 of 17 passes for 157 yards with an interception before exiting. His backup, Brian Hoyer, completed nine of 12 passes for 78 yards in relief.

Hoyer will likely take over as the team’s starter as Cutler rehabs is thumb, beginning against the Dallas Cowboys this week. The 0-2 Bears rank 30th in the NFL in points through two games.

Cutler fractured the same thumb in 2011 and was forced to undergo surgery. He missed the team’s final six games of the season that year.

Bears linebacker Danny Trevathan also injured his thumb against the Eagles, which will require surgery - though not season-ending.

Outside linebacker Lamarr Houston suffered what Fox called a significant injury against the Eagles, though he did not confirm the extent on Tuesday. Defensive lineman Eddie Goldman was diagnosed with an ankle sprain.
