Drake, John Wall, Julio Jones, Meek Mill and Al Harrington headline a list of over 150 celebrities, athletes, politicians, academics and law enforcement professionals that have signed a letter urging U.S. President Joe Biden to issue mass pardons to all non-violent cannabis offenders that are currently incarcerated across the country.

The letter has been released through The Weldon Project, a cannabis clemency advocacy group, to push for marijuana reform. Among the signees include rappers Killer Mike, Quavo, 2 Chainz, Tory Lanez, Ty Dolla $ign and Kodak Black and athletes (both former and present) such as Deion Sanders, Kevin Garnett, and J.R. Smith.

“Whatever one thinks of other drugs and other defendants, incarcerating marijuana offenders in federal prisons is a misuse of our nation’s resources and grossly hypocritical, given that a clear majority of Americans oppose marijuana prohibition and about half admit to using the drug during their lifetime,” the letter argues.

Biden has faced sharp criticism from drug policy reform advocates that he has yet to make good on campaign promises to legalize marijuana and expunge all prior cannabis records.

Although marijuana is decriminalized in most states, the substance still results in a significant amount of arrests a year, while many are still serving time for non-violent marijuana-related offence.
