The Montreal Alouettes have reached out to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats regarding a potential deal for quarterback Johnny Manziel according to TSN’s Dave Naylor.

This is at least the third time talks have taken place since last fall when Hamilton gave permission to speak to him and work him out.

Naylor reports that talks heated up again before the CFL Draft and now again in July with the Alouettes struggling at the quarterback position and Manziel not having played yet during the regular season because of Jeremiah Masoli's strong play.

According to Naylor, the Tiger-Cats are in a good position since they have Manziel under contract until the end of the 2019 season. The Alouettes do not have a first or second round pick in next year’s draft, which could limit what they’re able to offer.

The Alouettes are 1-4 on the season and have managed a total of only 69 points on offence.

Naylor notes that others around the CFL are skeptical that Hamilton would move Manziel, but the situation bears watching.

The Ticats have lost two games in a row to push their record to 2-3. They will take on the Ottawa Redblacks next week at Tim Horton’s Field, while the Alouettes will play host to the Edmonton Eskimos.
