The Montreal Alouettes next head coach may be former NFL coach Mike Sherman.

TSN CFL Insider Dave Naylor reported the former Green Bay Packers bench boss could be tabbed when the Alouettes make their head coaching announcement Wednesday.

Sherman is best known for coaching the Packers from 2000-2005. He finished with a 57-39 record in his six years in Green Bay, leading the team to three division titles, four playoff appearances, and two NFC Divisional Round games. He was fired after the team posted a 4-12 record in 2005, the worst record of Brett Favre's career.

Sherman's last coaching gig in the NFL was as the offensive coordinator of the Miami Dolphins from 2012-2013. He also had NFL coaching stints with the Houston Texans and Seattle Seahawks.

Naylor notes he's heard for years that the Alouettes owners wanted to find "the next Marc Trestman" and Sherman's NFL experience would seem to fit that bill.

Sherman also worked in the NCAA, most notably as head coach of Texas A&M from 2008-2011. He finished 25-25, leading the team to three bowl appearances.

Sherman's most recent coaching gig was at Nauset Regional High School in Massachusetts, resigning in May after two seasons and a 4-18 record.
