(SportsNetwork.com) - Garrett Richards will try to stay hot in the month of June when he leads the LA Angels of Anaheim into the middle portion of a three-game series versus the Minnesota Twins Wednesday at the Big A.

Richards is 3-0 with a 0.67 earned run average in four starts this month and posted six innings of one-run ball in a 7-3 triumph over Texas last Friday. He struck out seven and walked three and has fanned 30 batters in June.

The young right-hander has a 7-2 mark to go along with a 2.79 ERA and has never won more than seven games in a season. He is 3-1 in six starts at Angel Stadium and has only faced Minnesota once in his career as a reliever.

Minnesota will counter with Yohan Pino on Wednesday and he made his major league debut in last Thursday's 4-2 win over the Chicago White Sox. Pino did not record a decision and pitched well, charged with two runs and five hits with seven K's and one walk across seven innings.

He retired 12 of the final 13 batters he faced

Pino, a right-hander, is replacing Sam Deduno in the rotation and registered admirable numbers with Triple-A Rochester. Pino was 9-1 with a 1.92 ERA in 14 games (7 starts) with the Red Wings.

The Angels took Tuesday's series opener by an 8-6 score and Mike Trout broke a 5-5 tie with a two-run homer in the second inning. It was the 17th homer of the season for Trout, who has reached base safely in 38 of the last 40 games and has 35 RBI in his previous 36 games.

Josh Hamilton and Howie Kendrick both went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored for the Angels, who have won four in a row and 11 of the last 16 games. The Halos are four games behind Oakland for the AL West lead.

C.J. Wilson started for the Halos and managed to hold on for the win even though he permitted six runs and nine hits in five innings.

"I had to try to make them miss," Wilson said. "It was the best luck to get all that run support."

Wilson is 6-0 in his last seven starts at Angel Stadium. Joe Smith later tossed the ninth to post his sixth save.

The Angels have scored three or more runs in each of the past 10 games

Minnesota had a four-game winning streak stopped on Tuesday in the opener of a six-game road trip, as Kyle Gibson lasted only two innings on the hill and allowed seven runs and four hits, including a home run.

"They got to Kyle early, it was a rough night for him," said Twins manager Ron Gardenhire. "He just couldn't get anything working."

Josh Willingham and Kendrys Morales both homered in the loss. Minnesota, losers in six straight on the road, was aiming for its first five-game winning streak since April 15-23, 2013.

The Twins will visit the Texas Rangers this weekend for three games

The Angels and Twins are meeting for the first time this season. Minnesota went 5-1 in last season's series with the Halos, who are 9-4 in the past 13 matchups between the teams in LA.
