The Toronto Blue Jays have signed infielder Freddy Galvis to a one-year, $4 million deal with a club option for the 2020 season.

Galvis spent last season with the San Diego Padres, hitting .248/.299/.380 with 13 home runs and 67 RBIs in 162 games.

The 29-year-old spent six seasons with the Philadelphia Phillies prior to his time in San Diego, and has a career .246/.290/.374 slash line.

The Jays designated relief pitcher Danny Barnes for assignment to make room for Galvis.
