Chris Borland made headlines when he retired after just one year of professional football over concerns of future head injuries; the only question remaining was what he would do with his signing bonus.
The former San Francisco 49ers third-round pick told CBS News’ “Face the Nation” that he would be paying back three quarters to the team.
To play one year, it's not a cash grab as I"ve been accused of. I'm paying back three-fourths of my signing bonus. I'm only taking the money I've earned," Borland, who played one year of the four-year contract he signed with the team, told CBS.
Borland’s signing bonus was $617,436 according to ESPN.
