The Calgary Flames signed goaltender David Rittich to a one-year, $800,000 contract on Thursday to avoid arbitration.

Rittich appeared in 21 games with the Flames last season, posting an 8-6-3 record with a .904 save percentage and a 2.92 goals-against average.

He was scheduled for arbitration with the Flames on Saturday.

The 25-year-old had a 7-5 record in the AHL last season with the Stockton Heat, posting a .889 save percentage and a 3.18 GAA in 12 contests.

He was signed by the Flames after two seasons in the Czech Republic in 2016 and posted a .924 save percentage with a 15-11-1 record as an AHL rookie in 2016-17.

Rittich is expected to compete for the Flames backup job behind Mike Smith in training camp.

The Flames, who went through the arbitration process with defenceman Brett Kulak earlier this week, have one arbitration hearing left with Garnet Hathaway scheduled for July 30. The team has avoided the process with Rittich, Mark Jankowski and Elias Lindholm this summer.
