Another International Fight Week, another late injury to kibosh a major fight.

UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway has withdrawn from his title defence against Brian Ortega in this Saturday’s UFC 226 in Las Vegas.

According to a statement from his management to ESPN, Holloway has been checked into a hospital emergency room for the second time this week following what they said were concussion-like symptoms.

On Wednesday, Holloway participated at the UFC’s open workouts and looked visibly sluggish.

According to Raphael Marinho of the Brazilian outlet Combate, a replacement to face Ortega will not be sought. ESPN had reported earlier that it was unclear if Ortega would remain on the card.

Earlier this year, Holloway was pulled from the main event in UFC 223, a lightweight title fight against Khabib Nurmagomedov, by the New York State Athletic Commission due to issues with his weight cutting.

This is the fourth straight year that a main or co-main UFC event has faced late changes leading up to the highly touted International Fight Week card.

At UFC 189, Jose Aldo withdrew from the card less than two weeks prior to his title defence against Conor McGregor and was replaced by Chad Mendes.

At UFC 200, Jon Jones was pulled from the card due to being flagged for a USADA anti-doping violation.

Last year at UFC 213, Amanda Nunes withdrew from her women’s bantamweight title defence against Valentina Shevchenko due to complications from sinusitis.
