Toronto Maple Leafs

The Toronto Maple Leafs held a morning skate at Philadelphia's Wells Fargo Center today. The lines, listed below, were unchanged from yesterday's practice.

Mike Babcock admitted it may be tough for his players to remain focused in the coming days as trade deadline buzz grows louder, but the head coach has a simple message for his group: "I guess the way I would look at it is: I got up today and knew we were playing Philly and thought about finding a way to get a win. That's what I'd do if I was a player." Babcock was asked what he would change if he could magically snap his fingers and change one thing about his team right now. "Well, I'm not a big magic guy, but I guess what I would say to you is, I think your determination should show every night, not every second night or every third night or when you're feeling good. Every night. So, that to me is our goal for our team: that we're prepared and competitive every single night."

The players are ready for a barrage of questions about the looming deadline. "I try not to think about it," P.A. Parenteau noted. "I've said it from Day 1 this season, I'm taking it day by day, game by game and that's the mentality I'm going to keep." Shawn Matthias admitted he let trade talk get to him earlier in his career. "It's tough," he said. "I've been through it with Florida. There were some tough years where we were in dead last and the deadline's coming, but you can't let things like that creep into your mind. You got to be positive. You got to be a good teammate and a good professional."

Nazem Kadri worked on the penalty kill once again this morning spending a good chunk of time at the white board with assistant coach D.J. Smith. "Just soaking it up," he said afterwards, "I think I'm ready." - Mark Masters, TSN
