The Columbus Blue Jackets are wading into the NCAA free agency pool.

TSN Hockey Insider Bob McKenzie says the team is finalizing a two-year, entry-level deal with Clarkson Golden Knights forward Sam Vigneault.

A native of Baie-Comeau, Quebec, the 21-year-old Vigneault is in his junior year at the Potsdam, New York-based school.

In 39 games this season, Vigneault notched 12 goals and added 24 assists.

McKenzie says that once the deal is finalized, Vigneault will report to the Blue Jackets' American Hockey League affiliate, the Cleveland Monsters, on an amateur tryout basis. In doing so, he will forgo his senior year at Clarkson. His entry-level deal would not kick in until the 2017-18 season.

The defending Calder Cup champions, the Monsters currently sit sixth in the eight-team Central Division.
