PAMPLONA, Spain — Chile midfielder Felipe Gutierrez scored from a free kick in stoppage time to help Real Betis win 2-1 at Osasuna in the Spanish league on Friday.
Gutierrez apparently surprised Osasuna's defence, which was positioned to defend a cross, when he blasted his shot from distance past goalkeeper Nauzet Perez.
Gutierrez also protected Betis' initial lead when he was on the goal-line to clear a shot near the half-hour mark.
Joaquin Sanchez put Betis ahead in the 19th minute with a superb solo effort. The 35-year-old forward fended off a defender before lobbing Perez while falling down.
Midfieler Roberto Torres made it 1-1 for Osasuna shortly after halftime when he scored from a rebound.
French forward Emmanuel Rivere was shown a straight red card for Osasuna in the 87th when he kicked a Betis player.
Betis rose into ninth place, while Osasuna stayed in the regelation zone ahead of this weekend's matches.
