Cincinnati, OH (SportsNetwork.com) - Mike Leake tossed seven shutout innings and the Cincinnati Reds blanked the Miami Marlins 5-0 in the opener of a three-game series.

Leake (4-4) allowed just two hits and three walks while fanning seven to remain unbeaten in four June starts. The right-hander had lost three straight starts to close out May.

Marlon Byrd (wrist) returned from the 15-day disabled list and delivered a solo home run in the fourth inning for Cincinnati, providing all the run support that Leake and two relievers would need.

Leake faced the minimum through four innings, then gave up a pair of walks with one out in the fifth. He took his no-hitter into the sixth, finally losing it when Christian Yelich poked a single into left. The base hit came after Leake plunked Derek Dietrich in the leg, but he responded by striking out red-hot Giancarlo Stanton to get out of the inning.

Leake pitched around a leadoff single in the top of the seventh by inducing three straight groundballs. The Reds gave him an insurance run in the bottom half on Skip Schumaker's pinch-hit RBI single to right.

Marlins starter Dan Haren departed earlier in the frame after serving up a double to Tucker Barnhart, who scored when Schumaker delivered batting in place of Leake.

Haren (6-4) took the loss after allowing a pair of runs with six strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings.

In the eighth, Jay Bruce plated two with his double to the wall in right and scored two batters later on Eugenio Suarez's first double of the season.
