PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Charlie Lindgren stopped 50-of-51 shots as the St. John's IceCaps earned their first win of the American Hockey League season by downing the Providence Bruins 4-1 on Friday.
The 22-year-old Lindgren made 34 saves through the first two periods as Nikita Scherbak, Charles Hudon and Markus Eisenschmid scored to built up a 3-0 lead for the IceCaps (1-3-0). Sven Andrighetto added an empty netter late in the third period for Montreal's AHL partner.
Alex Grant finally beat Lindgren at 11:32 of the third to put the Bruins (1-3-0) on the board.
Malcolm Subban started in net for Boston's AHL affiliate and was pulled after allowing three goals on nine shots in 26:21 of action. Zane McIntyre stopped all 11 shots his way in relief.
St. John's went 0 for 3 on the power play while Providence scored once on five chances with the man advantage.
