Stoke City will be playing in the Championship this season, but it's becoming increasingly unlikely that Xherdan Shaqiri will be joining them there.

According to multiple reports, Liverpool is in talks to bring the 26-year-old Switzerland winger to Anfield.

A product of the Basel youth system, Shaqiri has spent the last three seasons at the Brittania, coming over from Inter for a then-club record £12 million. It is believed that Shaqiri has a release clause in the neighbourhood of £13 million.

Shaqiri appeared in 38 games over all competitions for Stoke last season, scoring eight times. He played in all four of Switzerland's World Cup matches, scoring in their group-stage match against Serbia.

Prior to joining Inter, Shaqiri spent three seasons with Bayern Munich in which he won two Bundesliga titles and the 2013 Champions League crown.
