Manitoba Bisons defensive lineman David Onyemata put on quite a show during his Pro Day in front of scouts from 17 NFL teams on Monday in Winnipeg.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders also attended the workout.

Onyemata was the first Manitoba Bison to hold a pro day workout and was strong during weight room and on-field workout/drills.  The 23-year-old received high marks from those in attendance.

He excelled with a top 40-yard dash time of 5.06 seconds and a broad jump of 9'11", both of which would have ranked in the top-five at the NFL Combine.

His 33 reps of bench pressing 225 pounds would have tied for second.

“I felt pretty good and I received some good feedback today from teams,” said Onyemata. “I wasn’t thinking numbers and I just wanted to do the best I could. I felt I did really good and was pumped throughout the day. It would be really great if I got picked and happy to get the opportunity.”

New Orleans Saints defensive line coach Bill Johnson helped administer some of the drills.

“We tested him athletically on runs, jumps and then put him some football specific drills and thought he faired well and represented himself well," explained Johnson. "He had a lot people here with a lot of eyes on him and I thought he did a good job of handling it and going right back-to-back. I thought he was in good condition. I think it is remarkable in what he has done in far of learning the game of football in four year period and I think he’s got a glimmer of hope to continue this process and just see where it takes him.”

Onyamata is projected to be taken anywhere from the third to fifth rounds of April's NFL Draft.
