The Hockey Hall of Fame announced on Tuesday that NBC hockey analyst and TSN Hockey contributor Pierre McGuire has been named to the Selection Committee.

McGuire will replace Hall of Famer Scotty Bowman, whose 15-year term limit concluded on December 31.

"To receive a call from Lanny McDonald asking me to accept a position on the Hockey Hall of Fame Selection Committee is something I never thought was possible," said McGuire in a statement. "I am honoured and excited to know that I will be a part of this amazing group of hockey people whose mandate is to uphold the Hall’s standards of excellence in the process of celebrating the game’s greatest players, builders and officials."

After coaching in the NHL with the Hartford Whalers during the 1993-94 season and scouting for the Ottawa Senators in 1995-96, McGuire has made a name for himself reporting on hockey games 'inside the glass' for NBC and TSN for nearly two decades.

He began his broadcasting career as a colour commentator for Montreal Canadiens English-language radio broadcasts on CJAD 800 and went on to be lead hockey analyst for TSN from 2002 to 2011 before joining NBC. He still appears on TSN Radio across the country, as well as TSN's TradeCentre and Free Agent Frenzy coverage.

"I am very pleased to welcome Pierre to the Selection Committee, as he brings a wealth of knowledge that will complement the Committee's deliberations in recognition of excellence in the game of hockey," said Chairman of the Board of the Hockey Hall of Fame Lanny McDonald in a statement. "I also extend our utmost appreciation and gratitude to Scotty for his distinguished service and outstanding contributions to the Selection Committee. Scotty's incredible understanding and perspective of the game has been a tremendous resource throughout his tenure."

The Hall of Fame also announced that CHL President David Branch, Calgary Flames President of Hockey Operations Brian Burke, 2010 Elmer Ferguson Memorial Award Recipient Marc de Foy, Hall of Famer Mike Gartner and former NHL player Anders Hedberg were each re-appointed to the Selection Committee for a further three-year term.
