Pittsburgh, PA - New York Mets third baseman David Wright has been diagnosed with spinal stenosis and will be out at least another week.

The Mets do not believe Wright's condition is degenerative, although assistant general manager John Ricco said Saturday it has lasted longer than expected.

"The doctors aren't that worried about it," Ricco said. according to MLB.com. "It's just something that seems to be taking longer than we initially thought. The way it was progressing, they thought it would be gone by now."

Spinal stenosis is a narrowing of the spine that puts pressure on the spinal cord and nerves, causing pain. It is most common in men and women over 50.

Wright, 32, has been out since being placed on the 15-day disabled list April 15 with a strained right hamstring. The Mets announced on May 8 that he was also experiencing back pain.

He was batting .333 when he went on the DL after only eight games.
