Terrell Owens said he believes he still has the ability to play pro football and would be open to the possibility of playing in the CFL.

While speaking on the red carpet at the ESPYs Wednesday night, Owens, who will be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame on August 4, addressed his potential return to the gridiron.

“I’m not actively seeking to get in the NFL but if there’s an opportunity to play, then yes I will entertain that, as well as the CFL.”

The Edmonton Eskimos have Owens on their negotiation list and earlier this week the 44-year-old activated a 10-day window for the team to offer him a contract or he becomes a free agent. Owens said he believes he can still be a productive pro football player.

“I know that I do have that ability to play. I think that everybody sees the shape that I’m in,” Owens said. “There are few guys that defy the odds, I’m definitely one of those guys.”

Owens last played with the Cincinnati Bengals in 2010. He appeared in 14 games and made 11 starts, finishing with 72 receptions for 983 yards and nine touchdowns.

The longtime San Francisco 49ers receiver was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame this year after a 15-year career in the NFL, where he compiled 1,078 receptions for 15,934 yards and 153 touchdowns.

“If it happens, it happens,” Owens concluded. “If it doesn’t, it’s not the end of the world.”
