New York Rangers general manager Jeff Gorton announced Monday the team has relieved associate coach Scott Arniel and assistant coach Darryl Williams of their duties, while assistant coach Lindy Ruff remains with the team.

The Rangers fired head coach Alain Vigneault after the final game of their season on Saturday night. Vigneault, who joined the team in 2013, had a 226-147-37 record with the Rangers over the past five seasons. The team went 34-39-9 this season, missing the playoffs for the first time under Vigneault.

Gorton said he and his staff would talk with Ruff about his future with the team. The general manager added the team is looking for a highly qualified individual as the team's next head coach.

Ruff, 58, has 19 years of head coaching experience under his belt in the NHL with the Buffalo Sabres and Dallas Stars. He was fired by the Stars one year ago after posting a 34-37-11 record with the team. In total, he had a 165-122-41 record over four seasons in Dallas.

Ruff is best known for spending 15 seasons as head coach of the Buffalo Sabres from 1997-2012. He won the Jack Adams Award in 2005-06.
