The St. Louis Cardinals are one of two teams with the framework in place for a Giancarlo Stanton trade, but regardless the outcome of the Miami Marlins' slugger sweepstakes, they could be in the market for another big bat.

According to a report from Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the Cardinals could also target Tampa Bay Rays third baseman Evan Longoria, whether they land Stanton or not.

"Longoria would be in play for the Cardinals, absolutely. The Rays could move him before he cracks the 10/5 list and has the no-trade control. In discussions with Tampa Bay that have focused on (releiver Alex) Colome, and have also -- at least internally -- looked at Chris Archer, Longoria could once again be a target for the Cardinals. When last they expressed interest in him, it didn't go anywhere."

The Cardinals have reportedly been interested in the Rays' closer - and perhaps their ace as well - but could look to turn that interest into a mega deal if Longoria is included as well.

Goold added that acquiring the last 10 years of Stanton's monster 13-year, $325 million contract would not push the team to their spending cap.

The 32-year-old Longoria hit .261 with 20 home runs and 86 RBIs for the Rays last season while also winning the Gold Glove at third base.
