The Hamilton Tiger-Cats locked up one of their young Canadian players Sunday, despite the fact he's currently out for the year with an Achilles injury.

According to a report from the Hamilton Spectator, the Ticats have signed DT Linden Gaydosh to a contract extension through the 2017 season.

Gaydosh was expected to be a key part of the team's rotation at defensive tackle before tearing his Achilles at Ticats' minicamp in April.

The former first overall draft pick joined the Ticats last year after spending time in the NFL with the Carolina Panthers. Gaydosh played in nine games, starting two, and registered four tackles.

In other Ticats news, the team is staying out west to practice all week ahead of their Friday tilt against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. There was only one notable absence at Sunday practice according to the Spectator, DE Justin Hickman was away for personal reasons.

The Spectator also reports a number of previously injured players were flown out to join practice this week. Among them were starting RT Joel Figueroa and promising DE Adrian Tracy, who had four preseason sacks, giving hope they'll be ready to suit up in Week 2.
