The Ottawa Senators signed defenceman Thomas Chabot to a three-year entry-level contract on Wednesday.

Chabot, 18, was selected 18th overall by the Senators at last June's NHL Draft. He established new major junior career-highs with 41 points (12 goals, 29 assists) and 62 penalty minutes with the QMJHL's Saint John Sea Dogs last season.

The 6-2, 185-pound native of Ste-Marie-de-Beauce, Que., helped Canada earn a bronze medal at the 2014 IIHF Under-18 World Junior Championship in Switzerland.

Chabot was invited to  Hockey Canada's National Teams' Summer Showcase which was held in August in Calgary. Chabot also recorded two assists and a plus/minus rating of plus-three over three pre-season contests with the Senators.

Returned by the Senators to Saint John, Chabot is likely to make his QMJHL season debut on Friday when the Sea Dogs host the Gatineau Olympiques.
