Ottawa Senators defenceman Thomas Chabot will represent Canada at the 2018 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship in Denmark next month.

Chabot played 61 games for the Senators in 2017-18 scoring nine goals and adding 16 assists.

The 21-year-old represented Canada twice at the World Junion Hockey Championships in 2016 and 2017.

The defenceman was drafted in the first round (18th overall) in the 2015 NHL draft.

Chabot's Ottawa teammate Matt Duchene declined an invitation, while Mark Stone said he would not play unless 100 per cent healthy.

Team Canada will be headed by Carolina Hurricanes head coach Bill Peters.

Buffalo Sabres forward Ryan O'Reilly and a New York Islanders trio of Mathew Barzal, Jordan Eberle and Ryan Pulock have already accepted their invites to the team.
