A new trailer for the upcoming Marvel Studios film Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings premiered on Thursday night during NBA Countdown on ESPN.

Starring Chinese-Canadian actor Simu Liu in the titular role with Destin Daniel Cretton directing, the film draws heavily from the character's kung fu influences as well as classic Hong Kong action cinema. Liu, who came to prominence on CBC’s Kim’s Convenience, is the first Asian actor to lead a Marvel Studios film.

The trailer also shares a new look at legendary Hong Kong actor Tony Leung Chiu-Wai as the villainous Mandarin, who is shown to be Shang-Chi’s father in the trailer, as well as supporting characters played by Awkwafina and Michelle Yeoh.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings releases in theatres on September 3rd. It will be the second of three Marvel Studios films to release in 2021, following Black Widow (July 9, 2021) and preceding The Eternals (November 5, 2021).
