The NHL's Feb. 29 Trade Deadline is approaching and teams are making decisions on whether to buy or sell and decide which players can make the biggest difference and hold the greatest value. Check out today's trade rumours and speculation from around the NHL beat.
Dousing the flames
One of the rumours that had been picking up steam ahead of next month’s Trade Deadline was the Winnipeg Jets shipping Andrew Ladd away, with the Florida Panthers being a rumoured top target.
If Ladd is eventually traded by the Jets, George Richards of the Miami Herald said it likely won’t be to the Panthers.
The New York Rangers enter the All-Star break firmly in a playoffs position but not mentioned among the top contenders for the Stanley Cup midway through the season.
The team is solid but could still use an upgrade or two and Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News looks into some options the team could explore leading up to the Trade Deadline.
It’s believed Kevin Shattenkirk would like to play for the Rangers and would strengthen the team’s defence. Leonard says Shattenkirk would likely cost the Rangers either Rick Nash or Chris Kreider.
The Rangers could also ship out pending UFA Keith Yandle, the team’s best trade chip according to Leonard, or get into the running for Tampa Bay Lightning prospect Jonathan Drouin.
