Winnipeg Jets forwards Blake Wheeler, Patrik Laine and Mark Scheifele said they will not be going to the World Championship in May despite being eliminated over the weekend at the hands of the St. Louis Blues.

All three players made the announcement as the Jets held their season-ending media availability Monday morning.

Scheifele was not on Canada's roster last summer as they finished fourth at the tournament, but he was with Canada for their second-place finish in 2017.

Wheeler, an American, has not represented the U.S. since 2011.

Laine has not played for Finland since being named 2016 tournament MVP.

Both Scheifele and Wheeler had five points while Laine had four (three goals) in their six-game series with the Blues. The Americans took home the bronze medal at the Worlds last summer behind Switzerland (silver) and Sweden (gold).

The Jets finished the season at 47-30-5 to finish second in the Central Division.

The Worlds will go from May 10 to May 26 in Slovakia.
