Ultimate Fighting Championship president Dana White is looking ahead to another potential superfight that has more than a couple of stumbling blocks in its way.

White wants to book a heavyweight fight between former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar and former light heavyweight champion Jon "Bones" Jones.

"Jon Jones is very interested in Brock Lesnar and Brock Lesnar is very interested in Jon Jones," White told TMZ Sports.

Lesnar, 40, remains under contract with World Wrestling Entertainment and is currently the WWE Universal Champion, but White believes he's interested in a return to the promotion.

"I know that Brock's WWE deal is up in the summer, I think," White said. "And I know he wants to fight. So I'm sure we'll get that figured out."

It is believed that Lesnar signed a short-term extension with the WWE shortly before WrestleMania 34 in early April. Even if Lesnar did not become a free agent, he has already fought for UFC whilst under WWE contract. Lesnar (5-3 (1) MMA, 4-3 (1) UFC)  won a unanimous decision over Mark Hunt at UFC 200 in July of 2016, but that was overturned when Lesnar tested positive for the banned substance, clomiphene.

In order to return to the Octagon, Lesnar would have to return to the US Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) testing pool and serve the remaining months of his one-year suspension that was put on hold when he announced his retirement from MMA in 2017.

The other issue for White is Jones' availability. Jones was suspended by USADA after he tested positive for Turinbol shortly after defeating Daniel Cormier for the light heavyweight title at UFC 214 last July. The result of that fight was overturned and the title was awarded back to Cormier. It marked the third time that Jones was stripped of the title. Jones remains provisionally suspended with USADA yet to announce a final ruling of his appeal. Jones could face a four-year ban.

"I'll end up figuring that out in the next month," White said of Jones's suspension. "I don't know how that's gonna play out. That's up to USADA."

Still, White remains hopeful of the fight coming to fruition.

"They both want it," White said. "It's a fun fight."
