WINNIPEG — The Winnipeg Jets have returned to practice a day after suspending workouts due to a possible exposure to COVID-19.

The Jets took to the ice at Bell MTS Place this morning before leaving for Toronto for a game Monday against the Maple Leafs.

Winnipeg cancelled its practice Saturday over what the team called "an abundance of caution" regarding a possible exposure to the novel coronavirus.

The Jets haven't played since opening their 2020-21 season with a 4-3 overtime win over visiting Calgary on Thursday.

Meanwhile, TSN's Sara Orlesky reports forward Patrik Laine left practice early after being unable to warm up properly. Head coach Paul Maurice said it is too early to call Laine day-to-day and the team will wait to see how he is feeling on Monday.

Orlesky also reports that defenceman Dylan DeMelo will not make the trip to Toronto and will instead remain in Winnipeg with his wife and new baby. Fellow blueliner Tucker Poolman is also unavailable as he remains in COVID-19 protocol. Maurice would not say who would draw in as the sixth defenceman, but Orlesky reports Dylan Samberg and Logan Stanley both practised. Neither has played an NHL game.

On Sunday, the Jets recalled defenceman Logan Stanley from the taxi squad and reassigned defenceman Ville Heinola from the Manitoba Moose (AHL) to the taxi squad.
