Former Toronto Blue Jays third baseman has been claimed off waivers by the Oakland Athletics.

The Jays designated Valencia for assignment Saturday in a series of roster moves that made space for the team's incoming trade deadline acquisitions.

Valencia was having a productive season for the Blue Jays, batting .296 with seven home runs and 31 RBIs in limited action, but was let go when the team decided to make Ben Revere the everyday left fielder. The Jays decided to keep first baseman Chris Colabello over Valencia on the bench.
