Vancouver Canucks defenceman Kevin Bieksa underwent successful hand surgery last week and on Tuesday the team announced that he will be out for six-to-eight weeks as a result.

The veteran defenceman suffered the injury when he was struck by Tampa Bay Lightning blueliner Victor Hedman's shot on Jan. 20.

Bieksa ranks second on the team in ice time per game, behind only Alex Edler, and ranks third on the team in both hits and blocked shots with 74 and 75, respectively.

In 45 games played this season, the 33-year-old has three goals and six assists with a minus-4 rating.
