Boston Bruins forward Chris Kelly suffered a left femur fracture against the Dallas Stars on Tuesday night and will miss six-to-eight months.

Bruins general manager Don Sweeney said Kelly would undergo surgery on Wednesday at Mass General Hospital in Boston.

Kelly, 34, had scored two goals in 10 games this season.

The Bruins' alternate captain scored seven goals and added 21 assists in 80 games last season.

The veteran of 750 NHL games has scored 118 goals and 277 points in his career with the Bruins and Ottawa Senators. He will be a free agent after the 2015-16 season.
